A Service of Beauty, Prayer, and Music
Choral Evensong is one of the treasures of the Anglican tradition: a contemplative service of scripture, prayer, and music offered at the close of day. Sung by choir and clergy, Evensong provides a peaceful space to step away from the busyness of life, hear God's word, and enter into prayer through some of the finest music of the Church. At St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Choral Evensong has been offered regularly for more than three decades and continues to be a beloved part of our worship life.
Whether you are a lifelong Episcopalian, a lover of sacred music, or simply curious about this uniquely Anglican form of worship, you are warmly invited to attend.
When Is Evensong Offered?
Choral Evensong is typically offered on the 2nd Sunday of each month, 5:00 p.m. throughout the program year, with seasonal services such as Advent and Epiphany Lessons and Carols also forming part of the tradition.
For upcoming dates and special musical offerings, please visit our Music & Events Calendar page.
What Is Choral Evensong?
Evensong is the sung form of Evening Prayer. Rooted in centuries of Christian worship, the service brings together psalms, scripture readings, prayers, and canticles such as the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in a pattern that has remained remarkably consistent through the generations.
Unlike many church services, Evensong requires very little from the congregation. You are free to listen, reflect, pray, and let the words and music carry you through the service. Many people find Evensong to be both spiritually nourishing and deeply restorative.

Who Performs?
Most services are sung by the St. Peter's Singers, with special services occasionally led by the St. Peter's Choir or presented in collaboration with guest ensembles and choirs. The music spans centuries of the Anglican choral tradition, from Renaissance masters to living composers, performed in the beautiful acoustics of our church.
